11 September 2026- The University of Medicine, Tirana (UMT) continues to engage in European initiatives aimed at enhancing quality, academic integrity, and ethical standards in higher education through its participation in SINCERE – Strengthening Integrity and Ethical Culture in Regional Higher Education, a project funded by the Erasmus+ Programme.
As part of this commitment, a presentation on the SINCERE project was delivered by Ms Anila Prendi, UMT’s Project Coordinator, introducing the initiative’s purpose, objectives, and key areas of focus, as well as the importance of strengthening academic integrity and fostering an ethical culture across higher education institutions.
SINCERE seeks to promote the principles of honesty, transparency, and accountability in teaching, research, and university governance. The project supports the development and improvement of institutional policies, strengthens academic integrity mechanisms, and encourages the use of digital tools to prevent and detect practices that undermine academic integrity, including plagiarism.
Another key component of the project is building the capacity of academic staff and students, with the aim of creating a university environment where integrity and ethical conduct are embedded in everyday academic life and form an integral part of institutional culture.
SINCERE brings together partner institutions from Albania, Kosovo, Romania, Poland, Serbia, and Hungary, creating opportunities to exchange experience and good practices and to develop shared approaches to academic integrity and ethics in higher education.
For the University of Medicine, Tirana, participation in SINCERE represents an important opportunity to contribute to the development of institutional standards and foster a university culture grounded in integrity, ethics, transparency, and accountability.
Through its involvement in SINCERE, UMT aims to continue supporting high-quality, trustworthy higher education aligned with European standards, placing academic integrity at the heart of university life and the development of its academic community.
